Across the US, bridging the digital divide between urban and rural areas has become a major focus for communities and all levels of government. Where does Indiana stack up in these efforts? In tracking high-speed internet access across the United States, the FCC relies on census reporting from internet providers as to what types (wireless, satellite, fiber, etc.) and speeds of internet are available in each location. Our mission at Mainstream is to connect rural areas to fast, reliable internet, so as we go through this data, we will focus on the rural access to a broadband connection, which the …

At Mainstream, one of the most common questions we receive is “Are you coming to my area?” Unfortunately, that’s not always a simple question to answer. Several factors go into determining where we run service, and after several months of planning, we have mapped our mainline route in Warrick County. The map of this first phase of service is available on our Warrick County page. It may be subject to minor changes based on extenuating circumstances that could arise. (Permitting, easements, construction roadblocks) But what if my house isn’t on your route? The current map shows our mainline route only. …

Causes of a Power Outage

Mainstream Fiber knows Indiana is no stranger to power outages. In fact, the Hoosier state has experiences 3,362 power outages across its 92 counties since the beginning of 2019. Regardless, outages tend to happen to most communities at least once a year, and usually without warning. We know the frustration of not being able to use fast-speed internet during an outage, and we always want to know what caused it. We put together a list of common …
